Reading Toni’s book gave a good perspective on what can happen
By KT on March 18, 2015
I read this book not having my parents nor myself go through a divorce but growing up with a parent involved in Family Law my entire life. I would hear bits and pieces but never a whole story. Reading Toni’s book gave a good perspective on what can happen, how people that are close to you can react and how hard the struggle really is. Hearing her describe the events of her divorce, written the way it is really connects you to her and her life. Definitely worth a read and share with a friend or family member.

Simply an AMAZING book. Once I started reading I could not and did not want to put it down. This book really helped me make sense of a lot that had happened during my long divorce process and the struggles I faced. It is a book I wish I was able to read in the beginning of what I was dealing with but it still benefited me reading because Im still having issues with the “other” in my life. i have gained a lot from reading this book and want to say Thank you to the author Toni McGillen, your words really made me feel better as a woman and mother who faced a lot of the same things you did and handled things pretty similar.
Invaluable advice and support!

McGillen’s book offers a roadmap for women navigating a surreal time in life – when the impossible seems to play out in reality, when friends and family form judgments and turn their backs, and the proverbial “other shoe” drops. The author’s compassion and unfailing support is tangible through her recollection of her own experiences. A must-read for any woman who has been through a divorce herself or anyone who is supporting a friend or family member during a divorce.

When I was 15 my parents divorced and even though it was a fairly calm divorce, it was heart wrenching. I read the book through my mom’s eyes and I wish she could have had this to guide her through her experience. Even though my parents’ situation was different than the authors, it helped me better understand the hardships that my mother faced being dependent on my dad. After reading this book I have a new-found respect for my mother and my father and what they went through. I also wish I could have had this book to learn how to support my mother better during this time. No matter what anyone says, every divorce is a hard divorce and these principles are extremely helpful and can be used for everyday hardships as well.
